How does darkness therapy work?
1. Choose a date and length
Pick a date and decide whether you want to come for a week, as most people do, or just try a dark retreat for 3 nights.
Week-long stays begin on Saturday evening; 3-night stays begin on Saturday or Wednesday.

2. Choose a cabin

There are currently 5 sanctuaries (dark cabins) available for a dark retreat.
Sanctuary of Friendship
Sanctuary of Peace
Sanctuary of Health
Sanctuary of Freedom
Sanctuary of Love for couples and individuals
3. Book your date
Fill in your details in the booking form. If you have any trouble filling it in, give us a call or email us at info@lecba-tmou.cz and we will gladly help.
The contribution for a dark retreat can be paid in instalments from 500 CZK a month. Meals and bedding are provided free of charge. Once the booking deposit has arrived in our account, your date is entered in the calendar and you receive a confirmation email.

4. Preparing for your dark retreat

Before you come for your dark retreat, we recommend preparing thoroughly. You will essentially be out of contact for a week, so we have written a guide to preparing for a dark retreat. How to set up your voicemail, what to say at work or to your family, and so on.
If you would like us to prepare the sanctuary in some way, perhaps play some mantras or light an incense stick, we will gladly do that for you. More in our guide, darkness therapy your own way.
5. Arriving at the centre
We have described how to get to us, whether by car, bus or train. Check-in is usually after 4 pm in winter time and after 6 pm in summer time, or any time later; we will agree the details by email. Before your dark retreat begins, we will ask whether you would like us to provide meals, so you can choose what you like and what you don’t. We can provide various kinds of food, from vegetarian to almost vegan or raw food.
Then we will tell you exactly how everything works, agree on communication signals and answer almost all of your questions (for some answers you will have to wait until you are in the dark 🙂

6. Goodbye, light

You arrive on the check-in day (usually Saturday) between 4 and 5 pm in winter time, or between 6 and 7 pm in summer time (or as agreed). You decide for yourself exactly when your darkness therapy begins, because you are the one who switches off the light. It is entirely up to you. You will find your way around the dark retreat cabin very quickly, and you can get a feel for the cabin’s facilities beforehand. You still have the chance to walk on the grass or call your family, and once you are ready, you switch off the light and your darkness therapy begins.
What to bring to a dark retreat:
1) a good mood
2) a good mood
3) a good mood
What definitely not to bring to a dark retreat:
1) chemical shower gels and shampoos
2) steroids, hormonal contraception
3) chemical perfumes, antiperspirants and other chemical toxins
7. During your stay
If you want to eat, we can provide fruit and muesli. In our experience, most people sleep through the first day or two. Every day we can bring herbal or fruit tea in a flask, a meal and fruit, or nuts and dried fruit. At that time we also ask how you are doing, and if you feel like talking, that is the right moment. If you prefer not to, we don’t come into your room but stay in the small hallway, so you have your space all to yourself. It is up to you, though – some people like to talk up close.
If you wish to be left completely alone, we can agree on no contact at all: you bring your own food, or we provide a week’s supply in advance according to your preferred diet.

What is contact with the guide like?
The guide brings your food and is available for a chat, but never imposes. Google reviews describe how this works in practice.
The guides were great. It was only after 3 days that I felt the need to talk, and they waited patiently, then listened, then talked things through – no judgement!!

The couple and their children are very kind, always available and willing to listen to you – whenever you need it.
Viktor Kala, February 2025
It was my first time in the dark, and I went not to suffer through it but to enjoy it. Thank you for the wonderful guidance; being able to share during the darkness was very pleasant.

8. Ending your dark retreat

Participants usually ask to be woken at daybreak so they can still see the dawn unfolding. The sunrise is a great favourite and feels like the dawn of a new life <3
After that we can talk some more; you are welcome to stay with us the whole day and leave whenever you see fit.
If anything is unclear, if you are unsure or need something explained, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
