The food was great

The food was great

Immersing yourself in total darkness reveals details we often overlook in the everyday rush. That’s exactly how it was described by a woman who has “three days in the dark, sixty hours to be precise” behind her. Right at the start of her account, she says it was “an amazing and interesting experience” for her, one she had wanted to treat herself to for quite some time.

A simple wish: rest and calm

She came to the space without light with a simple wish: to rest, catch up on sleep, calm down and be alone with herself for a while. At the same time, she was curious how DARKNESS THERAPY works in ordinary everyday activities. She enjoyed watching how she managed simple tasks without light, and she mentioned several times how fascinated she was by how quickly both body and mind adapt.

Music, silence and space for memories

For the first few hours she played music, and she livened up part of the retreat with an audiobook. Later, though, she chose a day of complete silence, because she was keen to find out what would happen inside her without any outside stimuli. It was the silence that opened up space for memories. She began replaying “summer camp songs” in her head, and even came up with a “memory test”, which she says surprisingly amused her.

A realistic view of time

She also shares a realistic view of time. She says she didn’t want to sugar-coat anything: “The time is long, you don’t sleep all the time.” At the same time, though, it was thanks to this that she reached a state she described as deep slowing down. Her thoughts slowed, her body relaxed and she began to perceive her own inner world with much greater subtlety.

Other people’s reactions and being ready

She also mentioned how people around her reacted. Before the trip, some tried to scare her: “For heaven’s sake, just don’t go mad in there.” Today she just smiles at that. In her view, there’s no reason to worry. All you need is a simple plan, a bit of music or an audiobook for company, and to allow yourself moments of silence too, as they bring the greatest realisations.

In conclusion: coming back to yourself

Her whole story shows that the DARK RETREAT brought her calm, a noticeable slowing down and, inside, several beautiful and surprising insights. For her, DARKNESS THERAPY wasn’t an escape but a return to herself. And that may be the greatest benefit for anyone who longs to set aside the noise of the world and let the silence speak.
